Hey everyone!
Welcome to Defining Yellow, my passion project if you will. However you ended up here, I’m glad you did and I hope you will stay. I guess I should explain a bit about myself before I expect you to read anything that I post. My name is Kourtney Benson, I am 23 years old and I have an undying love for coffee, music, drawing, reading, fitness and the smell of rosehip.
When I first started writing I knew I wanted to help people but I had no idea what I was doing or what this would turn into, I just thought a blog would be a nice place to start. I have transformed Defining Yellow into a blog with a goal of giving readers a taste of what goes on in my life and in my mind with hopes that I would attract those looking for inspiration, motivation, advice, or maybe just another perspective.
I want this to be a happy place for anyone to come to when they are looking for some positivity. I want you to feel important and at home when you’re here.
I hope that if anything I have said so far resonates with you, you’ll stick around to see what I have to offer, maybe Defining Yellow can help you with something as well. You can start reading my posts here!
Whether you’ve been following me or just came across my blog, thanks for reading ☀️☀️
(Hi, my finger slipped on 1st one, please erase & use this one.)
Noble undertaking.
Good luck.
Al

Hi, read your “purpose” page and love it. Just a thought… Like you I’ve found the “struggle” to be painful and often wished it to be less so as in “Why can’t these lessons be easier?” But despite my struggles with struggle I have found that lessening them can take away the depth of what they have to offer. It’s only those times when I have leaped (or have been shoved) off the cliff and dived down into the darkness of the abyss without knowing that I would survive that I have gained the greatest insights. This hasn’t always been easy and still isn’t from time to time but I am learning to trust the process. Thanks for your blog.

Thanks for your comment. Of course you are aware that you answered your own question, “Why can’t these lessons be easier?” I couldn’t have answered your question better. Unless we struggle we just don’t notice and therefor don’t spend the time and energy that is needed to grow. It’s like the biblical quote from Mathew, “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” When your’e too comfortable you don’t have the eyes to see. Though I like comfort as much as anyone I know that when I’m ready to grow I’ve got to open myself to the discomfort of just being i.e. deal with the struggle. Thanks again, Bob

I love your enthusiasm and desire to help people. Also to use the experiences you go through and the knowledge you glean from those experiences. I too have a Psychology and counseling background and can hear your words coming from my mouth when choosing my profession. The tougher times certainly made me a better resource for the many students I’ve worked with and their families as well. I was mainly in a middle school setting. Now I write and while I know I helped many families and kids, I find I gained much more from my work as a counselor than I probably ever gave. Good luck.

Feel soooo happy to read your about me” — It is soo sweet that you want to help others – and i just LOVE the defining YELLOW title for your blog page. I can connect so easily – when i walk to work, i feel that my day will be lucky if i see a yellow butterfly – and somehow they just come by everyday. And help me smile. 🙂 Thanks again for bringing smiles to my day – and to the hearts of so many others who can connect with you through your wonderful blog. 🙂

Welcome to WordPress and the writing community. You mentioned you have no authority to advise, but your voice is welcome and your thoughts are surely needed.

Being decisive makes the world tremble, but being indecisive is a super human power. I believe it shows that something is being forged on the inside of you and that you’re developing into someone that’s going to impact this world with a crazy, positive, contagious change. I think once all of the contents inside of you are done being shaken up and they settle down and take shape into exactly “who you are”, once you get that laser like focus to be shoot out that laser beam of decisiveness, the whole world is going to feel it.

Hi Kourtney,
Best of luck with your blog. Right after I saw your site, I got my email newsletter from Greater Good Science Center in Berkeley. You may be interested if you haven’t been on the site: https://ggsc.berkeley.edu/

About being indecisive. Indecisive should be called adventurous, a seeker of truth. Sticking to one path is safe but boring. I let the mood or evidence guide my tide. My favorite yellow is the simple, prickly pear cactus bloom. Gorgeous!

Hi! Like your color choice. Always went for autumn gold myself. Did you study positive psychology in school? What did you think about it, if you did?

I also have trouble making decisions. Life knows that and seems to keep throwing situations at me that require a decision! Keep flexing those decision-making muscles. If it helps, don’t think of one as right and one as wrong, but one as A and one as B. And neither may be perfect. 🙂
